Run Report:   Sunday 29th March 2009

Wtitten by James Grazebrook the back marker.

British Summer Time fooled nobody for the start of Lou Lucas’ mystery run on Sunday.  17 people gathered punctually at Ower on a dry but cold morning with a promise of sunshine and blue skies to come.  Six BMW’s, a couple of Triumphs, a KTM Super Duke, Lou’s scarlet MV and assorted others, plus one Lady Pillion.  We chatted for 15 minutes before Lou gave his Brief.  Hanging around was not allowed.  All Junctions were to be marked.  Please don’t overtake each other. Put your hand in the air if you want the roast at lunchtime.  Always wait for the Back Marker.  The route was known only to him and the Back Marker so don’t get lost!  And off we went.

We warmed up on the lanes across to Awbridge, but the pace quickened as we neared Grateley and became distinctly Advanced as we ran across Salisbury Plain from Tidworth to Bulford to Durrington.  Fast and dry open roads with the army taking the day off.  Few cars.  Great views.  And some rapid riding in a good group, with no stragglers.  At times we may even have touched the national speed limit!  After an hour of outstanding fun we dropped down into Shrewton and then through Gillingham to the White Hart in Sturminster Newton, where Lou had phoned the orders ahead and a warm welcome – with a choice of Sunday roasts – awaited all. A great choice.

At two O`clock we left, to wind our way past Blandford and Wimborne and through the bends to Cranborne.  Then a gentle cruise across the Forest to Carlo’s for tea and a chat in the sunshine.

A great ride.  Typical of Lou.  A `No Nonsense` safe ride.  No slowing down.  And a great group of people.
