Having never participated in a SAM event I would like to say how much I enjoyed the Pirbright Twisties.  The ride was at a brisk pace and in the company of no less than fourteen other dedicated riders.  It was interesting to see the wide variety of bikes ranging from my 23 year old K75S and Jill’s Bergman 400 to some of the latest showroom models.

The marking system was easy to pick up and worked incredibly well keeping all fifteen of us in a group, albeit spread out at times, but all ending up with big smiles at the White Heart pub in Pirbright.

Although the roads were a little damp this did not dampen our spirits or enjoyment of the beautiful countryside and twisting lanes.   A big thank you to Alec for opening our eyes to some very picturesque parts of our southern counties so close to our doorstep and for leading us through those twisty lanes.

The White Hart pub proved to be a good venue with a wide choice of meals and an excellent roast shoulder of lamb.  The landlord was particularly accommodating and a shift of tables was soon arranged so that we could all sit together and share stories.

After lunch Alec treated us to a maze of twisties – up and down, under and over, round and round, back and forth…

To sum up I have to agree with Jill, that it was well worth leaving the Isle of Wight so early in the morning for a brilliant days riding with good company.

I might well be persuaded to join IAM now if only to enjoy the rideouts.
